Great news to share with our community! The Ukrainian Education Council of Australia‘s (UECA) application to reactivate Ukrainian as a senior secondary language offering across Australia is continuing to progress through the required national consultation and review process.
Ukrainian was offered nationally in Australian high schools as a senior secondary language subject from 1992 until its suspension in 2018.
However, due to new arrivals from Ukraine and sustained enrolment growth in Ukrainian Saturday morning community language schools, it is apparent there is a clear need to “reactivate” Ukrainian as a curriculum offering in senior high school.
We thank the working group established by the UECA, under the auspices of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations, for their significant work in progressing this initiative!
