“Unissued Diplomas” exhibition at the University of Sydney honours memory of 36 Ukrainian students killed in Russia’s war against Ukraine

July 19, 2023 by CYOA Administrator

Unissued Diplomas, an international exhibition honouring the memory of Ukrainian students whose lives were brutally taken by Russian aggression and will never graduate, will be opened at the University of Sydney, Chau Chak Wing Museum, on Thursday 20 July by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Australia, Vasyl Myroshnychenko.

Students featured include environmentalist Sem Oblomei, 22, who helped to liberate Bucha and died on the eastern front 12 days after marrying his beloved girlfriend; bandura player Anna Kushnerenko, 17, who died crossing a bridge shelled by Russian forces; and car lover Andriy Dalibozhko, 23, who died with his father, brother and friend when Russian soldiers shot at their car.

Each story, shaped as a diploma, proudly displays the biography of the student provided by their families, and is signed “Bravery”.

The project was created by Ukrainian students around the world, with the support of the Ukrainian Canadian Students Union, to remind the world about Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine and the price Ukrainians pay daily in their fight for freedom.

The exhibition has already been seen in more than 45 universities around the world. See more here: https://www.unissueddiplomas.org/

The exhibition in Sydney is organised by the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia and the University of Sydney.
