Ukraine is leading the world in drone warfare – Australia stands to gain valuable insights by investing in Ukrainian industry and allyship.

In an op-ed published in The Australian’s DroneShield-sponsored editorial section, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Australia, HE Vasyl Myroshnychenko, writes:
After 3+ years of defending against russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine has revealed itself to be the global leader in modern warfare innovation, particularly in drone and counter-drone technology.
For Australia, the war may feel distant, but the security risks are not. Strategic partnerships with Ukraine offer an opportunity to strengthen our own national resilience and defence capabilities.
Speaking also with 7 News, Mr Myroshnychenko notes russia’s joint naval exercises with Indonesia and requests for access to an airfield in Papua – less than 850km from Cairns.
Ukraine’s message is clear: even smaller nations can defend themselves with innovation, courage, and strong partnerships.
“Ukraine is ready to support its allies, like Australia, in building national resilience and readiness. We offer more than warnings: we offer battle proven tactics, experience and lessons, backed by battle-tested war technologies, refined on the battlefield.”
“The lessons of Ukraine are not distant, they are urgent. The time to act is now,” he says.
Ukraine stands ready to help build a safer, more secure world – together.
