Overnight on Tuesday, russia launched yet another record-breaking attack on homes, neighborhoods and innocent people across Ukraine.
656 strike drones; 73 ballistic, cruise and anti-ship missiles; as well as cluster bombs were unleashed on cities and regions throughout the country, with Kyiv, Dnipro and Kharkiv being particularly hard hit.
At least 23 people were killed, among them an eight-year-old boy and a baby born in 2023. A first responder, Major Anton Yarmolenko, was killed in a double-tap attack in Dnipro. A record number of 41,000+ civilians – including nearly 4,500 children – sheltered in the Kyiv metro overnight.
This attack follows one of the largest strikes on Kyiv in over a year on May 24, when Ukraine’s cultural and civic heart – the Cabinet of Ministers, the Foreign Ministry, the Kyiv Opera Theater, the Chornobyl Museum, Dynamo Stadium, and more – were targeted.
This is what a terrorist state – with an indicted war criminal as its leader – does when it is failing on the battlefield and its economy is collapsing. russia terrorises from the sky by escalating its drone and missile attacks, targeting sleeping civilians.
Australia must step up – with both military and humanitarian aid.
Urge your Member of Parliament to support sending more military aid to Ukraine: afuo.org.au/campaign-for-ukraine-main/
Urge the Australian Government to close the blood oil sanctions loophole — Australia remains the world’s single largest importer of russian crude refined in third countries. Since 2022, more than $2.45 billion has flowed from Australian petrol bowsers to russia’s war machine. That has to stop.
