The AFUO congratulates Mr Peter Bongiorni, President of the Ukrainian Community of Queensland Inc, who has won the “Minister’s Multicultural Award” at the 2023 Multicultural Queensland Awards.
The award recognises outstanding contributions to multiculturalism in Queensland. The Hon Leanne Linard, the Minister for Multicultural Affairs, congratulated Mr Bongiorni for his ‘incredible support to help newly arrived Ukrainians to secure homes, learn English, enrol their children in school, access health care and settle successfully into [the] Queensland lifestyle.”
In his acceptance speech, Mr Bongiorni noted ‘This award isn’t just for me; it also shines a spotlight on the exceptional team of people, both volunteers and staff, at the Ukrainian Community of Queensland Inc.
“I share this honour with each and every one of them. Thank you all for your dedication and compassion,” he added.
We join the Minister in acknowledging the mighty efforts of Mr Bongiorni and the whole Ukrainian Community of Queensland Inc team. Great leadership – and a great community response to the challenges of the last 18 months. A very well deserved award!
