On Wed 4 March 2026, the Parliamentary Friends of Ukraine (PFU) was launched at Parliament House in Canberra.
The PFU is chaired in this Parliament by Senator Deborah O’Neill, with Co-Chair Senator James Paterson, and will strengthen engagement between Australia and Ukraine.
The launch was opened by Foreign Minister Penny Wong – Senator for SA and brought together Government Ministers, MPs and Senators from across the political spectrum, H.E. Vasyl Myroshnychenko, Ukrainian Ambassador, Cardinal Mykola Bychok, and members of the Australian-Ukrainian community, including representatives of Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations.
The event was also attended by a delegation of Ukrainian MPs, led by Dr Galyna Mykhailiuk, Chair of the Ukraine-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group in Ukraine.
That same week, the Senate moved a motion reaffirming Australia’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in the face of russia’s ongoing war: https://parlwork.aph.gov.au/motions/61d2606c-b017-f111-93dc-d3fa4314fcac.
Together, we continue to strengthen the partnership between Australia and Ukraine — standing for democracy, sovereignty, and freedom.
