In the past 24 hours, russia has launched one of its largest drone attacks against Ukraine, with 948 drones unleashed in a coordinated assault across the country.
This was a deliberate attack on civilians. This is state terrorism at scale.
Explosions were reported across multiple regions, killing 7 and injuring at least 50 people.
💔 Homes, critical infrastructure, and even a maternity hospital were targeted.
💔 Among the cities hit was Lviv, where close to 400 daytime drones damaged the historic centre, including the UNESCO-listed St Andrew’s Church and Bernadine Monastery 🏛️- a site of immense cultural and historical significance.
This escalation is not accidental – it reflects systematic russian targeting of civilian life and the continued use of terror as a weapon of war.
russia does not want peace – it only seeks to destroy Ukraine and its people.
Australia and the international community must respond with clarity and resolve.
👉 Strong pressure on russia must be maintained.
👉 Sanctions must be tightened.
In Australia, the blood oil sanctions loophole enables the importation of russian crude oil refined in third countries. The revenue generated helps fund this type of destruction and props up a regime that wages war on Ukrainian civilians, commits state terrorism, and supports regimes like Iran through military cooperation and intelligence.
Australia must not enable this. We urge continued support for Ukraine, including:
🛢️ Closing the blood oil sanctions loophole
🪖 Military aid for Ukraine’s defence
❤️ Humanitarian aid
🚑 Emergency services equipment
⚡ Support for energy resilience and recovery
Australia and the world must stand with Ukraine – not just in words, but in action.
