Oil Update! Progress in the #StopFuellingrussiasWar Campaign

October 31, 2025 by CYOA Administrator

The AFUO continues to lead the national effort to close the russian oil loophole – ensuring Australia’s fuel supply no longer funds russia’s brutal war on Ukraine.

📈 AFUO research – quoted in the media – revealed the Proteus Stephanie tanker, which docked at Port Botany last Sunday, sent $12.5 million to the Kremlin. Since July, 8 blood oil shipments to Australia have generated $123.4 million to fund russian terror.

🤝🏻 Expert coordination: We’ve worked closely with oil experts like the @Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), Mark Corrigan (Hobart), Dr Anton Moiseienko (ANU) and legal advisors to strengthen the case for reform.

🪧 Protests & media impact: When tankers carrying russian-linked fuel neared our shores, community members and supporters in Sydney and Perth stood up – gaining coverage in local, state and national media.

🏛 Political advocacy: Following a letter to all MPs in Parliament, the AFUO continues to engage with the Foreign Minister, Assistant Foreign Minister, the Opposition, and key MPs, calling for decisive action. Support has been voiced by @Andrew Wilkie MP, @Senator Fatima Payman, @Senator Michaelia Cash, @Senator Dave Sharma and @Senator David Shoebridge.

🗣️ Advocacy Tour with Ukrainian Officers: Lt-Col Andrii Berezovskyi and Col Mykola Fedkalov met with Australian leaders, highlighting the impact of russian attacks on the frontline and peaceful civilians, and urging the closure of the sanctions loophole.

📰 Extensive media coverage – ABC News, ABC Radio, SMH/The Age (David Crowe), The Herald Sun (Mark Dunn), the Australian Financial Review, Australian Business Journal, SBS News, 9 News, 7 News, 10 News, The West Australian, WA Today, Energy News Bulletin, AAP, Radio 6PR, news.com & The Monthly.

📣 National action: Our letter-writing campaign – backed by our hromady – has gained powerful momentum, with over 270 letters sent to MPs. Add your voice: bit.ly/3FSwslX. ✊🏼

🔴 Call for Inquiry: If no action is taken, we call for an inquiry into the Albanese Government’s handling of this immoral loophole. The time for action is NOW. Every day of delay prolongs the death, suffering and destruction in Ukraine.

Stop Fuelling Russia’s War – Take Action Now
Australia continues importing refined russian crude oil while Ukrainian cities burn. Every dollar we spend on russian oil funds Putin’s war machine.

🙏🏻 The AFUO thanks Sania and Bohdan Wolodymyriw, and the Rudewych family, for their generous support of the #stopfuellingrussiaswar campaign.
