The AFUO is honoured to have facilitated important meetings with His Excellency Mr Paul Lehmann, Australian Embassy, Ukraine, with leaders and representatives of the Ukrainian community in Melbourne and Sydney last week.
Topics raised included:
Areas of collaboration with the Australian Government
Advocacy for much-needed military aid
Widespread concerns over the russian oil sanctions loophole
Humanitarian assistance and welfare for newly settled Ukrainians
Opportunities for partnership in business, education and cultural spheres
Representatives were present from the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations, Ukrainian World Congress – Свiтовий Конґрес Українців, Association of Ukrainians in Victoria, Ukrainian Council of NSW – ОУГ НПВ, Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in Diaspora – Essendon, St Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church Lidcombe, Ukrainian Association of Cabramatta-Fairfield – UACF, Dnister Ukrainian Credit Co-operative, Australia-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce, Plast Australia – Пласт в Австралії, Ukrainian Women’s Association NSW, Ukrainian Women’s Association Victoria, Ukrainian Museum of Australia, and Ukrainian Studies Foundation Australia.
We sincerely thank Ambassador Lehmann – who oversaw the move of the Australian Embassy back to Kyiv this year – for standing with the people of Ukraine. We are grateful for his open dialogue, advocacy and work to foster deeper ties between Ukraine and Australia.
