Ukrainian-Australian artist and Director of the Ukrainian Museum of Australia, Maru Jarockyj opens historic exhibition at the renowned Percherska Lavra in Kyiv: “Heavenly Patroness of the Invincible People – the Image of the Ukrainian Madonna from Australia”
The cycle of five Madonnas – Chornobyl Madonna, Orange Madonna, Madonna Holodomor 33, Madonna of the Heavenly Hundred, and Madonna 2022 – embodies Ukraine’s most tragic and heroic chapters. Each work fuses deep symbolism with national memory: famine, revolution, nuclear disaster, war, and resilience. Together, they form a moving testament to the enduring spirit of the Ukrainian people.
The exhibition held 1-5 Oct was attended by distinguished guests including Australian Ambassador to Ukraine Paul Lehmann, Acting General Director of the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” Svitlana Kotlyarevska, and head of the scientific research department of archaeology Serhiy Taranenko.
Embodying national memory and spiritual resistance, the collection recognises the importance of Ukrainian voices in global cultural dialogue. Maru’s works have been exhibited in London, Toronto, Rome, Kyiv and Brazil.
Sydney friends! An important reminder: Don’t miss Maru’s next exhibition UKR-DNA – Ukrainian DNA, 8-19 Oct. A chance to witness her unique artistic vision here at home.
