Yesterday, Kyiv mourned. And we mourned with her. ![]()
In russia’s largest-scale attack on the capital since the start of the full-scale invasion, multiple neighborhoods and homes were targeted, including a nine-storey apartment block. When rescue workers finally pulled the last person from the rubble, 24 were dead. Among them, three children.
Three girls. Aged 12, 15, and 17. One of them — 12-year-old Liubava — had already lost her father, a Ukrainian defender, to russia’s war.
Over two days, russia launched more than 1,560 drones and 56 missiles against Ukraine – and it came immediately after a ceasefire that russia used not for peace, but to stockpile weapons and strike harder.
russia is not looking for peace. It is killing and maiming Ukrainian civilians, terrorising them, and trying to crush their will to stand against russian aggression.
We are grateful that Australian Embassy, Ukraine officials visited the site of the russian attack and witnessed first-hand the death and destruction wreaked by russian federation. We hope this strengthens the Australian Government’s commitment to continue providing military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
This is what russia’s war looks like. This is why Ukraine needs our support. Without it, the murder of innocent people will continue.
We stand with the people of Kyiv and Ukraine today — in grief, in solidarity, and in resolve.
