Yesterday, following months of pressure from the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations, the Australian Senate launched an inquiry into the scope of Australian Government sanctions on russia – including those related to the importation of refined russian oil.
The AFUO’s #StopFuellingrussiasWar campaign has been instrumental in getting us to this point – raising awareness, driving public action, and applying pressure on the Government to take stronger measures.
The AFUO has:
- Met with all levels of Government
- Raised awareness through national media
- Engaged with policy experts
- Mobilised community activism
A huge thank you to everyone who wrote to their MP, attended a protest, or shared our message online. Your support has been vital in bringing this issue to national attention.
The inquiry marks an important step toward ensuring Australia’s sanctions policies against russia are effective and aligned with our values.
But we’re not stopping until the job is done – until russian blood oil is no longer imported into Australia, and Australia stops indirectly funding russia’s genocidal war against Ukraine.
