April is recognised globally as a time to reflect on the millions of lives lost to genocide — and to reaffirm our responsibility to remember, educate, and act.
For Ukrainians, this includes the Holodomor of 1932–33 — a man-made genocidal famine that claimed millions of lives and was deliberately inflicted by Stalin and the Soviet regime on the Ukrainian people.
For decades, the truth of the Holodomor was suppressed. Today, education and awareness remain essential in ensuring that such crimes are recognised, understood, and never repeated.

This April, the Ukrainian World Congress – Свiтовий Конґрес Українців is supporting a new free online course, developed by leading international and Ukrainian scholars and the Holodomor Research and Education Consortium at the University of Alberta, dedicated to the Holodomor genocide.
The course examines not only the events of 1932–33, but their lasting impact — and the importance of recognising current patterns of russian oppression, disinformation, and violence that continue to deny and suppress Ukrainian identity and nationhood.
