The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations congratulates and extends its deepest gratitude for the successful completion of Australia’s first hosting of the Permanent Synod of the world-wide Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), invited by His Eminence Cardinal Mykola Bychok.
The AFUO was honoured to facilitate meetings with leading NSW state politicians. Cardinal Bychok, Fr Lyubomyr Yavorskyy, official representative of His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Father and Head of the UGCC, AFUO Chair Kateryna Argyrou, in her capacity as Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Sydney and Ukrainian Council of NSW – ОУГ НПВ President Andrew Mencinsky met at NSW Parliament with New South Wales Premier Chris Minns, Opposition Leader Kelly Sloan and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Greg Piper.
In Melbourne, the bishops of the Permanent Synod of the UGCC, headed by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, met with the Victorian Premier, Jacinta Allan.
During the meetings, the delegation discussed the ministry of the UGCC in Australia, the challenges of the Ukrainian community in wartime, and further cooperation to support Ukrainians through the Patriarchal Foundation, “Mudra Sprava”.
A charity luncheon in Melbourne supporting “Mudra Sprava” was attended by bishops of the Permanent Synod, representatives from the diplomatic corps and around 300 members of the Ukrainian community in Australia.
We sincerely thank the Ukrainian community for its participation in the Permanent Synod and acknowledge all members of the Ukrainian-Australian community who met with and supported the Permanent Synod.
