Dear Ukrainians and Australians,
Today, we don’t merely celebrate the independence of a nation; we pay tribute to the unyielding spirit of the Ukrainian people. We honour the courage, determination, and staunch resolve of Ukraine to chart its own course amidst devastating Russian aggression.
In this harrowing battle for freedom, democracy, and life, we are buoyed by the support of the entire civilised world, including the Australian community. In a message of support, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said today, “Australia pays tribute to the sacrifices you have made to defend your nation and its independence. Though it comes at a heavy cost, your fight in the name of sovereignty and your efforts to uphold the international rule of law are shaping history. We admire your bravery and your resilience.”
Additionally, the Leader of the Opposition, Peter Dutton, Senator Simon Birmingham, Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and Andrew Hastie MP, Shadow Minister for Defence, have reaffirmed their “unwavering commitment to Ukraine and its people through these darkest days…We hold in our thoughts and prayers those in Australia and those with family and friends in Ukraine.” The Coalition continues to provide bipartisan support for the Australian Government to support Ukraine’s defence with as much support as possible, as quickly as possible.
