Thank you Senator Jacqui Lambie!
In the Senate, she marked Ukrainian Independence Day; paid tribute to Ukraine’s resilience through tragedies like the 1932-33 Holodomor; and reminded Australians of the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, where Ukraine gave up its nuclear arsenal in exchange for security guarantees.
She also urged more Australian Government support for Ukraine’s fight for freedom, saying:
“Our PM says it is in our national interests to help Ukraine and I agree. But there is so much more that this country could be doing.”
“The last time Ukraine got anything off us was last October. Disgraceful.”
“You need to step up to the plate!” she told the Government.
Senator Lambie called for:
- More Bushmasters – even retired ones
- Hawkei vehicles
- Australian-made drones in partnership with Ukraine
As explained by the Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Myroshnychenko in comments to the ABC: “120 Bushmasters have been supplied, but most have been destroyed… Every day we don’t have those tanks on the battlefield, more and more people get killed.”
We join the call for the Australian Government to continue to support Ukraine with military aid. While Ukrainians are deeply grateful for past assistance, the need is urgent.
You can also join Senator Lambie and the AFUO in urging the Government to do more!
