To celebrate the coming of spring, Easter or Великдень (pronounced “Velykden”), a uniquely Ukrainian tradition of creatively and intricately decorating eggs with wax and natural dyes dates back to ancient times.

This work or art and culture is unique in different regions of Ukraine and is a symbol of Ukrainian culture, history, spirituality and custom. Pysanky are not only beautiful, but each design – whether a geometric pattern, an animal, plant or religious symbol – has a meaning of health, fertility, protection, prosperity, love and more.
By continuing and teaching the art of pysanky making, Ukrainians all around the world, including Australia, are taking part in the preservation of our identity and cultural roots.
So grab your kistka & wax and let’s get decorating!
