In Kyiv, James Baillieu – nephew of former Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu – recently stood among 250 Ukrainian war amputees. He’d been invited by Max, a soldier he helped rehabilitate after losing a leg to a mine.
“These aren’t victims – they’re Superhumans” he said.

In an article for Kyiv Post, James shares his deep admiration for Ukraine’s heroic defence of its country and shines a light on Australians who have stood, shoulder to shoulder, with Ukrainians:
Francis Farrell from Parramatta, Sydney, reporting daily from the frontlines.
Rachel Lehmann from Hobart, who has stayed in Kyiv to support her students.
Robert Potter from Adelaide, who trains cyber forces & wounded veterans.
Dozens of Aussie soldiers fighting voluntarily. Ten have paid the ultimate sacrifice and have been reported killed in action.
In the article, Vasyl Myroshnychenko, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Australia, says “Ukrainians will never forget Australia.”
The AFUO agrees. Let’s make the efforts, contributions and sacrifice of Australians in Ukraine visible in our national story.
