Progress report 23-29 June
MEETING WITH NSW POLICE
The Auburn Police Area Command met with representatives from the AFUO, Ukrainian Council of NSW – ОУГ НПВ and St Andrew’s Ukrainian Catholic Church to establish new relationships and discuss community concerns. Grateful to Superintendent Commander Toynton and Multicultural Community Liaison Officer Luo for the genuine interest and support.
“WHERE THE UKRAINIAN HEART BEATS” ROUNDTABLE
I had the privilege of representing the Ukrainian Diaspora in Australia and speaking at a round table hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The roundtable was designed to explore the role of Ukrainians abroad in public diplomacy. The event helped establish contacts and strengthened the network between state authorities and active Ukrainian communities abroad.
Thank you to the GDIP Media Centre and MFA of Ukraine for organising this powerful and inspiring event. Grateful for the leadership provided by Mariana Betsa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Tetiana Sybiha, Head of the Centre for Public Diplomacy of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine and Co-Founder of the Association of Spouses of Ukrainian Diplomats.
STEFAN ROMANIW MEMORIAL SERVICES
We recently marked a very sad day – a year since the passing of our beloved Stefan Romaniw. Memorial services were held across the country to honour the work, the memory, and the legacy of our dear Stefan. Thank you to everyone who attended the memorial services and especially to those who continue the work that Stefan started. The AFUO compiled messages and memories of Stefan into a memory book that was presented to his family on behalf of the community.
“SUSPILNE” INTERVIEW
Conducted a live interview on Ukrainian TV where I had the opportunity to highlight our community’s work and efforts to support Ukraine. Discussed the latest rounds of sanctions enacted by the Australian Government, including the banning of russia’s shadow fleet and the package of sanctions targeting 37 individuals and 7 entities which support russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Also explained why our community is working hard to advocate for the Australian Government to close the sanctions loophole that currently allows the import of refined russian crude oil from third countries, thereby funding russia’s war crimes against Ukrainians.
Published the DUA 2024 Annual Impact Report, highlighting the 50+ Brigades that we support across the entire frontline in Ukraine. Also continued to deliver critical military aid to our brave defenders, including drones, stretchers for medical evacuations, and other life-saving equipment.
COORDINATING CALLS
Continued to host weekly coordination calls, including strategy, oil campaign, Independence Day 2025, UWAL
