The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Nick Parsons, an Australian bomb disposal expert in Ukraine, last week.

Mr Parsons, a veteran of the Australian Defence Force and volunteer with charity Prevail Together, made the ultimate sacrifice in Izyum while working to protect Ukrainian civilians from deadly unexploded Russian munitions.
Kateryna Argyrou, Chair of the AFUO, expressed her heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr Parsons.
“Countless lives have been saved thanks to the bravery of people like Mr Parsons, who selflessly put their lives on the line to reduce the significant, lasting harms of war,” said Ms. Argyrou.
“On behalf of our community, we thank Mr Parsons for showing courage and true Australian mateship to the people of Ukraine – even in the face of a brutal war.”
“His loss should serve as a tragic reminder of the human toll of Russia’s brutal and illegal invasion of Ukraine, and the importance of achieving a just and lasting peace.”
