Write to the Government and your MP: https://standwithukraine.good.do/aus-stop-fueling-russias-war/message-local-mps/
Since russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Australia has:
- Imported billions in refined petroleum made from russian crude oil
- Sent an estimated AUD $1.85bn to the Kremlin via russian export taxes – in the last 18 months alone
- That’s more than the AUD $1.5bn Australia has given in total aid to Ukraine
That means our petrol dollars have helped fund:
- Missiles targeting homes, hospitals and schools
- Weapons killing innocent civilians and decimating cities
- The illegal occupation of Ukraine
For over a year, the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) has been urging action on this critical issue – meeting with the Government and MPs, commissioning consumer research, writing submissions, and collaborating with industry experts.
Key asks have been:
Banning Australian imports of refined fuel made from russian crude oil
Closing the sanctions loophole that allows it
Now, powerful reporting by journalist Mark Dunn in Australia’s “Herald Sun” – backed up by research by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air – has brought this issue into the public spotlight.
Australian mining giant Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest, Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Myroshnychenko, the AFUO, the Ukrainian Council of NSW – ОУГ НПВ, and industry experts have all been quoted in recent media reports backing the call for immediate action: http://afuo.org.au/media/in-the-news/
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN TO TAKE ACTION:
Write to the Govt and your local MP urging the loophole be closed
Ask fuel retailers to stop importing fuel refined from russian crude oil
