Byron Bay, Lake Macquarie to Kharkiv: Aussies Saving Lives in Ukraine

December 19, 2024 by CYOA Administrator

Three Australians – Benjamin and Neil Webster, and Ivan Semciw – recently completed a 3,000km humanitarian mission with the AFUO’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal (UCA), delivering 2 x $60,000 ambulances, stocked with vital medical supplies to Ukraine.

Through AFUO’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal partnering with Medical Life Lines Ukraine, they were able to join a convoy transporting ambulances to hard-affected regions like Kharkiv, where medical resources are desperately needed.

“These ambulances save 20 – 30 lives a month,” said Neil. “Even if the ambulance lasts just a few months, it’s a tangible way to make a real difference.”

Since 2023, Ukraine Crisis Appeal (UCA) has donated 4 evacuation vehicles and 8 ambulances to Ukraine, by converting decommissioned NHS vehicles into life-saving tools.

“The strength and optimism of Ukrainians is inspiring,” Benjamin said, speaking with news.com.au. “It’s a reminder that even small actions can have a huge impact.” Read the full article here.

The UCA’s volunteer team exemplifies Australian generosity and a hands-on approach to supporting Ukraine amidst relentless russian aggression.

We wholeheartedly thank Neil, Benjamin and Ivan for their bravery and generosity; the drivers of the ambulance convoys; the volunteers; and our partners at Medical Life Lines Ukraine and Rotary World Community Service. We also extend a special thanks to Neil for funding one of the ambulances!

Give the gift of hope and life this Christmas – please donate to Ukraine Crisis Appeal today at: www.ukrainecrisisappeal.org. All donations are tax deductible.

If you would like to join our volunteering efforts across Australia, please contact Diahanna (Darka) Senko via the UCA website.
