The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) is deeply saddened by the loss of Russell Allan Wilson, a courageous Australian who has been reported killed while fighting in Ukraine.
It is understood that Russell stood shoulder to shoulder with Ukrainians on the frontlines of Donetsk – one of the most dangerous battlegrounds in russia’s war against Ukraine – for several years.
Russell made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of Ukraine’s freedom. Russell’s bravery, unwavering commitment, and relentless courage in defending the innocent will never be forgotten.
Russell embodied the very best of the Australian spirit: standing up for what is right, even at the greatest personal cost.
To Russell’s family and loved ones – your grief is shared by Australian-Ukrainians and Ukrainians around the world. Russell’s sacrifice is now forever woven into Ukraine’s story of resistance and resilience.
