Australian businessman and philanthropist David Seargeant helps Ukraine

September 19, 2024 by CYOA Administrator

Australian businessman and philanthropist David Seargeant has had a successful business relationship in Ukraine, and is now providing huge philanthropic support to the people of Ukraine.

“My attachment to Ukraine began around twelve years ago when I met Slava, a highly intelligent, deep-thinking and insightful Ukrainian business executive with whom I established a lasting personal connection,” recalls David.

“Slava’s background as an aeronautical engineer made him an ideal person to design and build inflatable boats, which we imported from Ukraine and sold successfully in Australia.

Slava and his team visited Australia in 2012 and, as CEO of our company (Chief Entertainment Officer), I was in charge of showing them the sights. They loved the high-rise buildings, the beaches, the wide-open spaces and, true to the meaning of his name, Slava frequently commented on the freedom we experienced in our country. In 2024, he returned with his wife and son. This was a warm and emotional reunion over a day and evening at my business partner’s farm.

During this evening, I vowed to him that I would somehow see him in his country and bring an ambulance stocked with medical supplies to aid the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people.

Unfortunately, due to illness, I was unable to be a driver of the ambulance, but I still had the great satisfaction of being able to organise the ambulance and its medical supplies. The ambulance and medical supplies will be delivered to Kharkiv later this month.

The horror and sadness I felt about the invasion of Ukraine and the suffering of its people, as well as my enduring friendship with Slava, made me determined to do what I could to alleviate the struggles of Ukraine in some way. The images of the war and the resultant suffering distresses me constantly. I have funded the ambulances and its supplies which are my contribution to the cause through and with the assistance of the Ukraine Crisis Appeal.”

The AFUO & Ukraine Crisis Appeal extend their deepest gratitude to David Seargeant for his generosity.
