Around Australia, the Ukrainian community marked Ukrainian Independence Day last week with street rallies, concerts, on-line auctions, global human chains, flag raisings, festivals, picnics, movie screenings and proud displays of Ukrainian culture, dance, song, music, clothes and food.
The spirit of freedom, independence and pride in Ukrainian culture and identity was unmistakable. Notwithstanding Russia’s illegal, genocidal war against Ukraine, Ukrainians know who they are, what they stand for and that they will win this bitter struggle against aggression and evil.
The community was heartened by the support of many politicians and guests, including NSW Minister for Multiculturalism Stephen Kamper, Lynda Voltz MP (NSW), Karen Anne McKeown, OAM MP (NSW), Kylie Wilkinson MP (NSW), Robert Borsak MLC (NSW), Sonia Hornery MP (NSW), Mark Coure MP (NSW), Senator Sarah Hansen Young (SA), Mark Butler MP (SA), John Gardner MP (SA), Joe Szakacs MP (SA), Steve Georganis MP (SA), Lee Tarlamis OAM MP (Vic) and Matthew Guy MP (Vic).
