Watching US President Trump and Vice-President Vance bully and victim-blame President Zelenskyy during an Oval Office meeting has been a shocking moment.
The Australian-Ukrainian community is proud of President Zelenskyy for standing up for his country and people. His war-time leadership has been principled, stoic and unwavering, reflecting the determination of Ukrainians to defend their sovereignty and democracy.
Ukraine has always been grateful for the support of its many partners, who recognise the importance of Ukraine’s struggle against aggression and tyranny. Australia has been a steadfast ally of Ukraine since the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, and our community deeply appreciates this commitment.
We welcome the Prime Minister’s strong statement today, reaffirming Australia’s unwavering support for Ukraine.
Ukrainians want peace more than anyone, but it must be a just and lasting peace – one that recognises russia as the aggressor and acknowledges the immense toll of Putin’s war on Ukrainian towns, cities, infrastructure, and most importantly, its people.
We support all efforts to maintain meaningful dialogue between Ukraine and its key allies worldwide, including the United States government, to secure such a peace.
