Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) Chair, Kateryna Argyrou, recently returned from an intense five days in Ukraine. The video she has prepared is heartbreaking.
Kateryna traveled home for Easter, arriving into her mother’s arms in Kyiv. During her trip, she was woken by massive explosions as russia launched what became the deadliest air attack of 2026 – over 700 drones and missiles striking Kyiv, Odesa and Dnipro, killing at least 17 people and injuring over 100.
Kateryna also travelled over 2,500 km across Ukraine – delivering humanitarian aid to a school in the Dnipropetrovsk oblast and meeting with defenders in Donetsk and Kharkiv oblasts.
She describes damaged buildings, farmland turned into trenches, roads under nets to protect from russian FPV drones, and memorials in every city for Ukraine’s fallen heroes – bearing witness to the reality of russia’s genocidal war.
The scale of suffering and destruction is painful beyond words. But it only deepens our commitment. As long as Ukraine fights, our community and the AFUO will continue to stand with Ukraine and advocate for more support.
