AFUO Chair Kateryna Argyrou and UWC President Paul Grod on ABC News Breakfast discuss the experiences of Ukrainians and the path to genuine peace & security.
“Since the start of the full-scale invasion we have had about 5,000 displaced Ukrainians come to Australia seeking safe-haven.
They are 75% women and children, torn apart from their extended families and most of their husbands are on the frontline. It has been emotionally and psychologically traumatising,” AFUO Chair Kateryna Argyrou says.
“Ukrainians live through the bombings on a daily basis and so of course they want peace, but they don’t want peace at any cost. They want a just and lasting peace,” Ukrainian World Congress – Свiтовий Конґрес Українців President Paul Grod says.
What is a just and lasting peace? Security guarantees for Ukraine from its allies and for russia to be defeated on the battlefield and brought to international justice for its crimes.
“Putin has imperial ambitions and unless he is defeated, there will not be any peace in Europe,” Paul Grod explains.
