A report on Ukraine’s stolen children will feature in this Tuesday’s episode of ABC TV’s Foreign Correspondent at 8pm.
Since russia launched its full-scale invasion, tens of thousands of Ukrainian children have been forcibly taken from orphanages, ‘filtration camps’ and state institutions, and relocated to russia. They are subjected to a systematic campaign of identity erasure, russian adoption and indoctrination.
Reporter Kathryn Diss embeds with an undercover network seeking to find these children and reunite them with their families. Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska also speaks to the program.
The International Criminal Court has rightly issued arrest warrants for putin and his children’s commissioner, Maria Lvova-Belova.
Australia is one of the 51 member countries and organisations in the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, co-chaired by Ukraine and Canada. Yet few Australians know about this horrific russian war crime, an egregious violation of the Geneva Conventions and an act of genocide.
