The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) is proud to congratulate our Chair, Kateryna Argyrou, on receiving the Ukrainian state award, the Order of Merit, III class.
The Order of Merit is given to individuals for outstanding achievements in economic, scientific, cultural, military or political spheres of activity.
Awarded late last year by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Order was formally presented to Kateryna by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Australia, H.E. Vasyl Myroshnychenko, at the 2026 Ukrainian Independence Day celebration in Sydney.
Accepting the award, Kateryna said: “It is recognition of our entire Ukrainian community’s tireless efforts to support Ukraine.”
This honour reflects Kateryna’s dedicated advocacy for Ukraine and her service to the Ukrainian Australian community during the most challenging chapter in Ukraine’s modern history. She has carried this work through the deep personal loss of her cousin, who gave his life defending Ukraine on the frontline. 
Congratulations, Kateryna, and thank you for your service to our community and to Ukraine.
