“Every city was under missile and drone attack — it was a feeling of armageddon. You could really tell people were physically exhausted by being under constant stress. Before, the mood was one of resilience and defiance.”
These are the words of AFUO Chair Kateryna Argyrou, quoted in Wednesday’s press coverage
, after witnessing russia’s terror firsthand during her visit to Ukraine last month.
We welcome Foreign Minister Penny Wong – Senator for SA condemnation of russia’s continued, systematic attacks – calling them “totally unacceptable” – and the Government’s summoning of the russian ambassador.
But words are not enough.

Ukraine is not only defending its people, culture and history from systematic destruction – it is defending the international rules-based order and the principle that borders cannot be redrawn by force. A just peace for Ukraine is a just peace for the world.
We urge the Anthony Albanese Government to:
Continue and increase military aid to Ukraine
Close the blood oil sanctions loophole – russian crude, refined in third countries, is still flowing to Australian petrol bowsers, funding russia’s war machine.
Australia must stand with Ukraine — not just in words, but in deeds.
