Early Sunday morning, russia launched one of its largest ever attacks on Ukraine’s capital — 90 ballistic and cruise missiles and 600 drones.
The unprecedented escalation included a hypersonic, nuclear-capable Oreshnik missile, directed at Bila Tserkva, in the Kyiv region.
At least 4 people were killed, including a 12-year-old child. More than 83 were wounded.
The strikes hit in every district of Kyiv, damaging:
The National Art Museum
The Kyiv Opera Theatre
Valeriy Lobanovskyi Dynamo Stadium
The Chornobyl Museum
Ukrainian House, one of Kyiv’s key art venues
Ukraine’s postal service headquarters on Maidan Nezalezhnosti
The Foreign Ministry building
Homes, schools, supermarkets, service stations, garages, a warehouse
Over the weekend, russian strikes were also launched at Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, wounding 23 civilians.
How can this still be happening, five years into the full-scale russian invasion? What will it take for the world to act? This is the attempted deliberate, systematic destruction of a people: their children, their culture, their homes, their history.
Ukraine needs more military aid so it can defend itself against this terror. russia must face real consequences. Sanctions must be tightened, not loosened. In Australia, this includes closing the blood oil loophole that allows russian crude, refined in third countries, to keep flowing to our petrol bowsers, generating revenue for russia’s war machine.
The world must act. Australia must act.
We call on the Albanese Government to provide immediate support for Ukraine.
With two clicks, and in less than two minutes, you can also send an email to our political leaders urging them to send more military aid to Ukraine and to close the blood oil loophole.
