Over one powerful weekend on 18-19 April, Ukrainian communities in Sydney and Melbourne came together with visiting Ukrainian writer, filmmaker, and volunteer Ruslan Horovyi.
For 20+ years, Ruslan has worked to return missing Ukrainian children – a mission made more urgent following russia’s invasions in 2014 and 2022, and the forced deportation of tens of thousands of Ukrainian children.
Through real life stories of life under occupation, his work offers rare insight into human realities seldom covered by mainstream media.
As part of the program, Ruslan presented his documentary “Moshchun: The Diary of Liudmyla Oleksandrivna” – a deeply moving account of a woman who survived the battles for Kyiv in her own home, leaving behind her testimony in a personal diary.
Alongside these events, Ruslan raised funds to support people in Ukraine’s de-occupied territories, where rebuilding lives and restoring dignity
remains an ongoing effort.
Thank you Ruslan for sharing these powerful stories and for your ongoing work helping communities in Ukraine.
We also thank everyone who attended, contributed and helped make these gatherings possible.
