Following its February appearance at Senate hearings on sanctions against russia, the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations has submitted further evidence to the Committee:
Powerful testimonials from community members exposing the human cost of the blood oil sanctions loophole;
More information on frozen russian assets;
Feedback from engagement with fuel retailers.
As part of its continuing work with the Committee during late February and March, the AFUO, together with Ukrainian Council of NSW – ОУГ НПВ, has also met one-on-one with new Committee Chair, Senator Jess Collins, Deputy Chair Senator Raff Ciccone and member Senator James Paterson, Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of Ukraine.
And in a recent development – submissions for the inquiry have been reopened.
New deadline: 12 June 2026 – have your say and help shape Australia’s policy
Continuing to import fuel refined from russian crude:
Undermines the intent of Australian sanctions;
Funds russia’s war machine and enables its ongoing genocidal attacks on Ukraine;
Strengthens russia’s capacity to support the Iranian regime’s military capability – prolonging the war in both Ukraine and the Middle East.
Every litre of russian-derived fuel funds war, destruction, and terror.
We will keep engaging with the Committee urging strong action on sanctions. Over $2.4 billion has already flowed to the russian war machine from the sale of russian-refined fuel in Australia. Enough is enough.
