Following reports that world maps wrongly marking Crimea as “disputed” territory and misspelling Kyiv were still available, the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) followed up with retailers.
Wesfarmers has confirmed to the AFUO:
✅ Kmart Australia has discontinued the map from sale, with an early March deadline for store copies to be removed.
✅ Officeworks has discontinued the incorrect map, and is now selling a correct map online
The Managing Director of BIG W has confirmed:
✅ The incorrect map is no longer sold online or in-store at Big W
✅ Internal processes have been strengthened to prevent this happening again.
We appreciate the retailers taking this matter seriously and advising us of their actions. We also thank community members who wrote to the retailers and helped raise awareness of the issue.
