The Ukraine Crisis Appeal (UCA) powered by RAWCS – Rotary Australia World Community Service and supported by the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations, is proud to assist Таблеточки / Tabletochki, a Ukrainian non-governmental charity dedicated to helping children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
Tabletochki works with children’s hospitals across Ukraine, including the Clinical Centre of Paediatric Medicine in Lviv, recently visited by The Sydney Morning Herald / The Age journalist David Crowe.
In his report, Crowe writes: “Tabletochki has helped 8,000 children and families over more than 14 years and has financed training for more than 900 medical staff. It channels support to 28 children’s hospitals, ensuring they have essential medicine, equipment and infrastructure.
This includes $275,000 from the Ukraine Crisis Appeal, an Australian charity, for the Tabletochki program in Lviv . The fund is supported by the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations and has been running since russian forces moved into eastern Ukraine and annexed Crimea in 2014.”
Through this support, UCA helped fund critical equipment and life-saving operations for many children with brain tumours – including:
An anaesthesia machine that allows for safe anaesthesia even for the smallest children
Patient monitors for continuous monitoring during and after surgery
Electronic droppers that automatically regulate medication dosage
Endoscopic equipment for minimally invasive brain procedures
UCA has supplied an additional $100,000 ($375,000 in total) to cover the cost of these operations, which would otherwise be prohibitive for Ukrainian families, whose children face a heartbreaking ‘triple jeopardy’ – not only battling cancer, but often being displaced from their homes and missing a parent, either serving on the front lines or who has tragically lost their life.
This moving video shows the real impact of that support on children and families in Lviv – a powerful reminder that together we are stronger, and that where there is care, there is peace.
