Ahead of Australia Day, the AFUO was proud to secure a national media interview for the Pudlo family – displaced Ukrainians who came to Australia seeking safety for their children after russia’s full-scale invasion.
Featured in the Sunday Telegraph today and syndicated nationally, Olha Pudlo shared her family’s journey from daily russian bombings in Ukraine to building a new life in Australia with just two suitcases.
“We were looking for a safe place for our children…thank you so much Australia,” Olha said.
In a touching display of legendary Ukrainian hospitality, Olha prepared borscht and salo to share with the pleasantly surprised journalist and photographer after the interview.
A powerful reminder of what safety, opportunity and permanent residency mean to Ukrainian families forced to flee russia’s invasion – and of Australia’s capacity for compassion.
