Today the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) stands with the Australian Jewish community and all Australians in observing the National Day of Mourning, honouring the 15 victims and all those affected by the Bondi Beach terrorist attack.
The national commemoration follows Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s announcement and reflects our shared commitment to solidarity, compassion and multiculturalism.
The impacted Chabad community in Bondi has chosen the theme: “Light will win – a gathering of unity and remembrance.”

Australians are also being encouraged to:

🍽️ Share a meal and spend time with family and friends
💫 Undertake a mitzvah – an act of kindness and compassion
We ask our community and supporters to kindly join us in honouring the victims and standing together against hatred and discrimination.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the innocent victims and honour the lives and meaningful impact of those taken including Dan Elkayam, Edith Brutman, Tania Tretiak, Adam Smyth, Rabbi Eli Schlanger, Peter Meagher, Rabbi Yaakov Levitan.
We also acknowledge those who were of Ukrainian background or had a connection to Ukraine: Tibor Weitzen, Alexander Kleytman, Boris and Sofia Gurman, Reuven Morrison and precious Matilda 🐝
