This week Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations raised serious concerns about a Sky News article that contained misleading narratives about Ukraine – and we’re pleased to share a constructive result.

Key concerns raised:
The headline “Ukraine strike kills 24 in russia” was incorrect. The reported strikes were in russian-occupied Ukrainian territory – not in russia.
The article cited claims from a Kremlin-installed local official without including the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s response, which denied the allegations and reiterated that Ukrainian strikes comply with international humanitarian law.
The report also lacked important context on the recent surge in russian disinformation about Ukrainian operations, including widely debunked claims last week about alleged Ukrainian drone strikes on one of Putin’s residences.
After the AFUO engaged directly with Sky News, the article was removed and a correction was published: skynews.com.au/corrections
We thank Sky News for their swift and responsible response.
We will continue to call out russian disinformation and lies to support accurate reporting and counter propaganda.
