The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) sincerely thanks the Albanese Government for the $95m Ukraine military aid package announced today.
The latest package includes:
$50m to NATO’s PURL
$43m in Australian Defence Force supplies
$2m for Drone Capability Coalition
This aid is critical to save and protect Ukrainian lives. russia shows no sign of stopping its genocidal aggression, escalating missile attacks and assaults. Putin’s vow to “fight to the last Ukrainian” proves this is not a country seeking peace.
We also welcome the additional sanctions against the shadow fleet. russia sustains its war economy largely on the oil trade.
However, more than $2 billion has been supplied to the Kremlin via the blood oil sanctions loophole – more than Australia has provided to Ukraine in aid. Until the Albanese Government closes the blood oil loophole, Australia will continue to fund russia’s war machine.
We urge the Albanese Government to follow the lead of the EU and UK and close this sanctions loophole immediately. Every day this decision is delayed costs innocent lives.
Australia’s support for Ukraine is a stand for sovereignty, democracy, and international law. By standing with Ukraine, we defend values that protect us all, particularly here in the Indo-Pacific where authoritarian powers are striving to expand their influence.
