The AFUO’s #StopFuellingrussiasWar campaign gains momentum – Senator Fatima Payman raises the issue of russian oil in the Senate
Last week, Andrew Wilkie MP – Independent Member for Clark asked during Question Time about the “sanctions loophole you can drive a tank through”.
Today, WA Senator Fatima Payman raised the issue of russian oil during Senate Question Time.
Senator Payman addressed Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong in light of community concerns over the Sefaris tanker docking in Kwinana.
“There are 3 oil tankers filled with products tainted by laundered russian oil unable to ship to Europe because the EU has cracked down on the type of sanctions evasions we are seeing right now in my home state,” she said.
“West Australians need to be sure that when they’re pulling the trigger at the bowser, they aren’t helping to pull triggers in Ukraine.”
”Will the Government follow the EU’s lead to close these loopholes that are available for third party countries and send in the Border Force to stop this fuel from reaching Australian bowsers?” Senator Payman concluded.
The AFUO has written to every Federal MP and Senator urging support for the banning of refined petroleum containing russian crude.
Our values shouldn’t be undermined at the pump.
Australia must act now.
