Following requests from the Australian Federation of Ukrainians Organisations (AFUO) for more information about the recent Government decision to allow Ukrainians on a subclass 786 visa to apply for a further visa to remain in Australia, the Department of Home Affairs has released a Q&A for Ukrainian 786 visa holders.
Ukrainians and their families who are in Australia and wish to extend their stay can access normal visa pathways, including the skilled, family, student and visitor visa programs.
Ukrainians who have arrived on a temporary visa and are unable to access normal visa pathways or cannot return to Ukraine, may also apply for a Bridging visa E (subclass 050) or a Protection visa (subclass 866).
To assist with navigating the visa and migration process, the Department has provided to the AFUO a listing of free or low cost migration services.
Ms Kateryna Argyrou, AFUO Co-Chair said today “The AFUO will continue to advocate for displaced Ukrainians in Australia concerning their visa and migration issues. We will keep you posted about further consultations.”
Since 23 February 2022, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Australian Government has granted over 10,000 visas to Ukrainians. Nearly 5,000 of these visa holders have since arrived in Australia.
