The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations’ (AFUO) U-Help Fund has launched a new $50,000 program to help family members of the Ukrainian community in Australia who are fighting on the ground in Ukraine.
Multiple small grants will become available to fund protective life saving equipment, non-lethal military equipment, thermal underwear, protective clothing as well as assistance with transportation for Ukrainian soldiers, territorial defence personnel, medical staff and volunteers.
Ms Diahanna Senko, Chair of the U-Help Fund and AFUO Director of Humanitarian Aid Initiatives said “At a national level, Australia is providing direct military and financial aid to support Ukraine. However, there is an ongoing critical need at the grassroots level to assist Ukraine’s war effort.
“Requests from Ukrainians in the war zones, via their Australian family members and friends, will assist to provide life-saving protective equipment and transport for these brave defenders.”
Financial amounts between $15,000 – $7,000 have been allocated to each state, based on the number of resident displaced Ukrainians.
Applications will open on Monday 19 September 2022 and close at 5:00pm AEDT on Monday 3 October 2022. Late applications will not be considered.
Applications are open to members of the Ukrainian community in Australia personally known by a member of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisation (AFUO) and Humanitarian Aid Initiatives Committee or State Hromada executives, whose immediate family members are in an active war zone on the territory of Ukraine.
