Dr Serhiy Kvit in Western Australia

Dr Serhiy Kvit, a leading Ukrainian academic and activist, will visit Australia between 19 April and 13 May 2012 at the invitation of Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations.  Dr Serhiy Kvit will be in Western Australia between May 6 to 8 to meet with academics, politicians and the community.  The main thrust of Dr Serhiy Kvit’s presentations will be “Academic Freedom, University Autonomy and Public Debate: Issues in Ukraine Today.”

Dr Serhiy Kvit  is a prominent commentator on educational issues, has been rector of the National University of Kyiv‐Mohyla Academy since 2007. In 2002‐07 he was Dean of the University’s social studies faculty. He founded the Kyiv‐Mohyla School of Journalism in 2001 and became president of the Media Reform Centre, set up to initiate open debate and promote more transparent media and government (… read more on attached flyers)

The Ukrainian Association of WA, CYM and Dr A Kania have organised 3 presentations by Dr Serhiy Kvit during his time in Western Australia.

Presentation to the Community
Ukrainian Catholic Church Hall 18 Ferguson St Maylands 
at 11:30am (following Liturgies at both Churches). 

Morning tea will be served.

No RSVP necessary.

 

Monday, May 7 
Sundowner Evening / Presentation 
Somerset Hotel, 185 St Georges Terrace, Perth from 6:00pm.
Attendees also will have the opportunity to meet with Dr Lesa Melnyczuk whose new book “Silent Memories —

Traumatic Lives: Ukrainian Migrant Refugees in Western Australia”, will be launched.
