Woollahra Municipal Council in Sydney has continued to stand with Ukraine and “keep it on the map” by attaching We Stand With Ukraine street blades to the street signs on which the Russian Consulate is located.
“The street blades are a reminder every day for Russian consulate staff as they go about their business in free and peaceful Australia that Ukraine will always exist – no matter what the Russian government is inflicting on Ukraine,” said Ms Kateryna Argyrou, Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) Co-Chair.
“The street blades also show Russia and the world that Australians support freedom, human rights and democracy,” she added.
Following the decision to stop the process to rename Fullerton St due to concerns from Fullerton St residents, the Council is continuing to work with the Australian-Ukrainian community to support Ukraine, in line with the Council’s public statements of support.
“Besides the street blades, Woollahra Council will be flying the Ukrainian flag at the Council Chambers on Ukrainian Independence day on 24 August, and encouraging other councils to do the same,” said Ms Argyrou.
The Woollahra Council also lists on its website a range of links and information about ways to support Ukraine, including encouraging local businesses to list vacant job opportunities on the Australia for Ukraine jobs board, and residents to donate to the Ukraine Crisis Appeal and/or the Ukraine Crisis Appeal Resettlement Fund.
