MEDIA RELEASE
Under the umbrella of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO), the International Coordination for Medical Aid for Ukraine is marshalling donations of urgent medical consumables from the medical fraternity in Australia to alleviate the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, following the brutal invasion by the Russian Federation on Thursday, 24 February 2022.
We are seeking support from medical suppliers and those in the medical industry including both public and private hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and State and Commonwealth governments.
The latest U.N. estimates reveal that at least 2 million people are displaced inside Ukraine and more than 2.5 million refugees are sheltering in neighbouring countries. However, 42 million people remain in Ukraine and urgently need our help.
We are extremely grateful for the generous assistance of our Australian partners in providing assistance with supplies, logistics, warehousing and airlifts at no cost – Rotary Australia World Community Service, CH2 Clifford Hallam Healthcare and Qantas Airways.
Phase 1 involves sending urgent supplies requested by Ukraine within the next fortnight. The list of medical consumables is attached, outlining the items of greatest scarcity.
Phase 2 will be in a few weeks, when we ask the general public to donate required items.
