SINGING RUSSIAN SONGS UNDER THE  HAMMER AND SICKLE SYMBOL IS  INSENSITIVE AND UNACCEPTABLE IN AUSTRALIA

MEDIA RELEASE

SINGING RUSSIAN SONGS UNDER THE  HAMMER AND SICKLE SYMBOL IS  INSENSITIVE AND UNACCEPTABLE IN AUSTRALIA – CAN’T USE THE BLOKEY, MULTICULTURAL ARGUMENT FOR THIS

Promoting cultural diversity in Australia is positive and something we all share.

The ABC Australia  Story and the  Dustyesky Choir  being promoted tonight on the ABC  have got  it wrong by allowing the Soviet Russian Symbol of terror, the Hammer and  Sickle to be a symbol under which they sing .

It is more than just a blokey group having fun.

When  symbols of atrocity,  of crimes against humanity are used to promote something not only do, we shun this, but we should be in  uproar.

Whether a Nazi Swastika or Soviet Russian Hammer and Sickle these are no go zones for any reason. They bring back memories. The Swastika was responsible for the death of millions of Jews . The Hammer and Sickle was the symbol for murdering  millions in  Ukrainian Holodomor (Famine)  in 1932-33.

For 70 years after the end of WWII Soviet Russia was responsible for creating the Prison of  Nations, violating human and national rights  and committing acts of atrocity.

The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations  protests in the strongest   . You don’t’ need the symbol to do your work.

“The AFUO calls on members the Choir to see reason and  remove the symbol of atrocity which brings back sad human memories.  It also calls on the  broader  community to protest to the ABC.” Mr Romaniw  , Co-chair of the AFUO said today

“Music, Culture , Diversity, Comedy all great fun – Some things just do not mix. Symbols of historical terror are one of them “ Stefan Romaniw Co-chair of the AFUO said today
