Українці Вікторії відзначили 80-ту річницю Голодомору

23-го листопада 2013р. українці у Вікторії відзначили 80-ту річницю Голодомору – геносид винаходжений Сталіном.

Відзначення відбулося в Мельбурні при участі сотнів українців та їхних прихильників.  Святкування розпочалися зложенням хрестів в парку «Fitzroy Gardens», а звідти був жалібний похід під плакучим небом до міської площі «Federation Square».

На площі виступили з промовами запрошені гості з австраліських парламентів (штатові і федеральні), поміж ними і міністер штатового планування, Матюв Ґай – з українського походження.  Отці української католицької та православних церков відправили Панахиду за жертв Голодомору.  Далі було висвітлення короткого відео-фільму де можна було почути спогади свідків Голодомору.  Відзначення закінчилося короткою мистецькою програмою.

Ukrainian community in Victoria commemorates 80th anniversary of Holodomor

On 23^rd November 2013 the Ukrainian community of Victoria marked the 80^th anniversary of the Holodomor genocide engineered by Joseph Stalin.

The commemoration was held in Melbourne and was attended by hundreds of people.  The event started with the placement of crosses in Fitzroy Gardens, followed by a solemn procession under the weeping heavens to Federation Square.

Several speeches were made by a number of dignitaries including State Planning Minister Matthew Guy, who has Ukrainian heritage.  A Requiem service for the victims of the Holodomor was conducted by clergy from the Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox churches.  This was followed by a short video film which featured some eyewitness accounts of the Holodomor now residing in Australia, and concluded with a short cultural program appropriate to the occasion.

This video was an Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) initiative which was created for the 80th Anniversary commemoration event held in Melbourne, Australia on 23 rd November 2013 in Federation Square.
Included are interviews with eye-witness survivors of the Holodomor now living in Australia.
