HOPAK IN THE PARK – Event Details

Hopak in the Park – Date and Times

The Ukrainian Cossack Dance Spectacular ‘Hopak in the Park’ will occur on Saturday 30th April 2011 at The Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne.

Gates for the viewing public access will open at 1:00 pm and will close at 6.00 pm.

1:00 pm Gates open
1:15 pm Introductory performance by the Ukrainian band ‘Hrim’.
1:35 pm The official opening, including singing of national anthems, welcome messages and a brief commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster
2:00 pm Start of Hopak dance performances
5:40 pm Conclusion of dance performances
6:00 pm Gates close

 

Tickets

There is a 2,500 seating capacity mostly undercover.

Over one thousand tickets have already been sold.

All people attending the performance are required to have tickets.

Ticket prices:

Adult $28.00
Senior $22.75
Concession $17.50
Child FREE

Note that entrance for children under 12 is free but tickets must be obtained beforehand.

Tickets may also be available to be purchased on the day at the booths at the gates – but be aware that there may be a queue and parts of the performance may be missed.  You are encouraged to obtain your tickets before the event.



Sidney Myer Music Bowl

Location Details

The Sidney Myer Music Bowl is situated in the King’s Domain Gardens, Linlithgow Avenue, off St Kilda Road.

Getting there

It is a short walk from Flinders Street Station or a tram ride along St Kilda Road.  The Music Bowl has easy access by tram – board any northbound tram in St Kilda Road or any southbound tram in Swanston Street (except No.1) and get off at stop number 16 or 17.

If you are driving to the venue there is limited street parking available.  Alternatively the Arts Centre’s undercover car park is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  The car park entrance is located at the corner of Sturt and Kavanagh St, Southbank (behind the Arts Centre) and is only short walk from the Bowl.

Except for a small number of VIP guests, there are no reserved seats, but there is plenty (2,500) of undercover seating available – but DON’T FORGET YOUR TICKET.

Ukrainian food (borshch and varennyky) and beverages (including soft drinks and Ukrainian beer) can be purchased on the day at the venue.

Other information

Over 300 performers will be taking part.  Dance ensembles taking part from around Australia include:

  • Volya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble
  • Zahrava Ukrainian Dance Ensemble
  • Veselka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble
  • Iskra Ukrainian Dance Ensemble
  • Roztiazhka Ukrainian Cossack Dancers
  • Cossack Brothers
  • Yevshan Ukrainian Dance Ensemble
  • Verchovyna Ukrainian Dance Ensemble

The dancers will perform over 20 dances involving acrobatic leaps, squats, stretches, quick steps, bends and twirls.

Two live music bands will provide additional entertainment.
