Diahanna Senko

Diahanna has been a long-time leader and advocate within the Ukrainian-Australian community. As a Director of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO), she is dedicated to driving national initiatives. She chairs the AFUO Humanitarian Aid Initiative Committee, a dedicated and talented team across Australia that supports Ukraine and promotes Ukrainian heritage here in Australia.

She is also the Director of the Ukraine Crisis Appeal, and she oversees and manages the Humanitarian and Medical Aid for the AFUO. The Ukraine Crisis Appeal, Australia’s largest tax-deductible fundraising effort for Ukraine, was established in partnership with Rotary Australia World Community Service and on-the-ground partners in Ukraine, enabling the mobilization of critical humanitarian aid, including food, shelter, and medical support for those affected by the war and displacement in Ukraine.

Her extensive experience in corporate and community development allows her to mentor and motivate teams, striving for greater achievements in both her professional and community endeavours. One of her greatest passions is working with children and youth, helping them develop their talents, build self-esteem, enhance their leadership skills, and cultivate empathy.

Preserving Ukrainian identity is very important to Diahanna. She initiated and documented the rich history of Ukrainians in Australia and co-edited “Ukrainians in Australia/Ukraine Downunder”, a publication that celebrates the legacy and contributions of the Ukrainian diaspora.

With a deep commitment to community, service, and cultural continuity, she continues to champion the AFUO’s mission of advocacy, unity, and support for Ukraine and Ukrainians in Australia.

Diahanna is incredibly honoured to have been recognised for her work. She received the Ukrainian Presidential Order of Merit in 2020 for her significant personal contribution to the development of the volunteer movement and charitable and humanitarian aid. In 2018, she received the Order of The Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ukraine, for her international coordination and cooperation during the 2018 Invictus Games. She was also awarded the Paul Harris Fellow in appreciation of her tangible and significant assistance in furthering better understanding and friendly relations among people worldwide. These awards were only made possible through work collectively with a great team.
